North v South: Which island offers the best investment locations

It seems we all like a good local tussle. This month in NZ Property Investor magazine we have pitted the North Island v the South Island to see which one stacks up with the best investment properties.

We've based the story on research specifically done by QV for the magazine. Also we have gone out and talked to key people in the top areas to get some more thoughts on why their places stack up as good investment locations.

The story is well worth a read and may make you think about where you buy investment properties.

Also this month we continue our series of looking at alternative investment options. With the summer holidays creeping up on us quickly we look at campgrounds.

One of our favourite locations when we do Regional Reviews is Rotorua - not just because that's where we are based! Rather it's a market which does attract a lot of investors from out of town. House prices are at a level which makes them affordable and the make up of the population, plus the economic growth make the rental market stack up. If you want more on why this is so then read the article.

We have lots of great columns in the magazine this month. Our resident tax guru Mark Withers reckons there is a silver lining to some of this year's tax changes. Meanwhile Sandy Richardson from the BNZ gives some great information on how to go about getting your loans pre-approved. Plus she provides a spreadsheet to help you understand how banks go about making lending decisions.

For those who like doing a bit of DIY Jane Eyles-Bennett gives you her 7 Deadly Renovation Sins.

And our featured book is one we highly recommend investors, or budding investor read over summer. How Ordinary Kiwis Profit from Property gives real life case studies from investors. They detail lots of different property investment strategies you can use and show you it is possible to make money from residential real estate no matter what the market is doing.
